Akmal B. Chaudhri is an Independent Consultant, specializing in Big Data, NoSQL and NewSQL database technologies. He has previously held roles as a developer, consultant, product strategist and technical trainer with several Blue-Chip companies and Big Data startups. He has regularly presented at many international conferences and served on the program committees for a number of major conferences and workshops. He has published and presented on emerging technologies and edited or co-edited 10 books. He is now learning about Apache Spark and also how to become a Data Scientist. He holds a BSc (1st Class Hons.) in Computing and Information Systems, MSc in Business Systems Analysis and Design and a PhD in Computer Science. He is a Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) and a Chartered IT Professional (CITP).
Anil is a senior journalist with an extremely varied background. He brings experience as newspaper reporter with Malaysian National Print Titles including The Star. Most recently Anil was Senior copy-writer with Intelligence Business Network (IBN) a corporate training company. Anil has a broad range of journalistic experience covering areas including business, local news and finance. Anil's particular skill is breaking down complex subjects into clear easy to understand copy. In addition to his background in journalism and copy-writing Anil has worked in everything from telemarketing to corporate sales, medical rep, restauranteur and even flying the skies as a cabin crew. He has also run and managed a number of start-up businesses including an internet cafe, a medical supplies company and a restaurant.
Since my participation in the Big Data event in Kuala Lumpur in early 2015, significant progress has been made in Australia in relation to its approach to public data. As part of the Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda to create a modern, dynamic, 21st century economy for Australia, it has released an Australian Government Public Data Policy Statement. This policy statement can be found at: http://www.dpmc.gov.au/pmc/publication/australian-government-public-data-policy-statement I was fortunate enough to be on the working group that supported this work and now I co-chair, with the Prime Minister’s Department, a Deputy Secretary Data Group that will work to take forward this agenda.
As Director of the Innovation Capital & Analytics Division, Dr Karl leads MDeC’s efforts in strengthening the Innovation Ecosystem within MSC Malaysia and Digital Malaysia. His responsibilities include Entrepreneurship, Research & Development, Commercialization and Funding. He has contributed towards the growth of the industry by advocating and implementing policies and initiatives to help entrepreneurs gain funding, new innovation, market share and international recognition. He is currently leading the National Big Data Analytics initiative (BDA) which aims to drive Malaysia as a leading regional BDA solution hub and proliferate usage of BDA in all sectors. Open Data, Talent Development and Open Innovation are some of the key focus of the national BDA initiative. He holds a Bachelor degree in Engineering from The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and MBA with Distinction and Doctor of Business Degrees from Charles Sturt University Australia. He is also a Chartered and Professional Engineer. He sits in advisory board of several universities in Malaysia and has served as judge in international Entrepreneurship and Innovation awards.
Dr. Toa Charm Managing Partner, Big Data Elite Asia Founder & Chairperson, BI and Big Data SIG, Hong Kong Computer Society Dr. Charm is an experienced and reputable business leader and information technology professional in Asia Pacific. He has gained more than 25 years of management experience from leading multinational and Chinese companies in Asia. Dr. Charm was Associate Partner of IBM GBS Greater China, Regional Head of BI Competence Centre for HSBC Asia Pacific, General Manager of Oracle (BI Division) and Hyperion Greater China, and General Manager of Kingdee Asia Pacific, and Executive of Jardine Pacific. He specializes in big data, fintech, strategy, customer experience, innovation, business transformation and internationalization for emerging enterprises. Dr. Charm’s vision is to leverage on innovative strategies and technologies to transform traditional enterprises for their sustainable growth, revolutionize Asian cities to become data-driven Smart City, and nurture startups to transform innovation into profitable business by providing them consultancy and training services. He currently acts as strategy advisor for a number of companies and his executive students in traditional industries and fast-growing big data and fintech companies in Greater China and Asia. Dr. Charm completed senior executive programs from Harvard, MIT, UC-Berkeley and CEIBS. He is a TDWI Certified BI Professional and completed a Big Data Certification Program of MIT. Dr. Charm has also been appointed as adjunct associate professor for MBA/MBA /M.Sc. and executive education programs of leading universities in Asia Pacific including University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University in Beijing, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Peter F. Drucker Academy.
Jothi Periasamy, a chief data scientist at Experfy (Harvard Innovation Lab). Jothi has deep “hands-on” subject matter expertise in big data, predictive analytics, in-memory analytics and cloud computing. Jothi has around 17 years of “end-to-end” data & analytics implementation experience, and his experience also includes advisory, strategy development, and project delivery, practice development, thought leadership and sales & pre-sales activities. He specializes in several industry processes including finance, smart grids, customers, spend, asset management, and performance improvements. He focuses on creating opportunities and values through advanced analytics, planning, forecasting, and profitability and cost management, activity based costing, and management/statutory reporting. Jothi’s most recent experience includes working with energy clients on big data analytics implementation initiative to develop a rollout strategy and deployment plan, enterprise data architecture, data management and governance framework. Jothi works very closely with organizational senior leaders, business process owners to develop an approach, methodology, and accelerators to standardize big data and analytics implementation process across enterprise.
Martin is Chief Scientist and CEO of Evolution AI, a consultancy which builds large-scale natural language processing systems for enterprises. He has developed AI systems for many FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 e-commerce firms: products designed by Martin are in use at companies such as Time Inc., Conde Nast, BuzzFeed and Staples.com. He worked previously as a statistician at the University of Oxford, where he performed research on genetic determinants of behaviour.
Niall is an analytics manager working on building analytical department capabilities from mainly open source data and free or near free analytical software for SME’s. Though he comes from a science background he has several years work complete in multiple big data environments. Niall has worked as a consultant with all industry types from financial to Olympic sports teams. He has previously specialised in visual analytics software, giving day seminars and teaching courses to leading UK and Ireland companies, but considers himself a big data all-rounder. He holds a MSc. in Applied Maths/Physics, Honours BSc. in Experimental Physics, diploma in Business Data and certificates in computing and teaching. His goal is to demystify the world of big data for the SME and guide them through a structured and simple analytical process.
